Venture Challenge Alumnus ShanX Medtech a step closer to market with Eurostars grant

Hundreds of millions of people suffer from Urinary Tract Infections (UTIs) every year worldwide. With the majority of UTIs stemming from a bacterial infection, the treatment thereof is straightforward: an antibiotic prescription. But for doctors quickly determining which antibiotic is effective for each patient is challenging. ShanX Medtech is a company developing antibiotic efficiency testing devices to help doctors to provide fast, evidence-based and personalized antibiotic care. microfluidic ChipShop GmbH is a pioneering leader in microfluidic cartridge development and the Eindhoven University of Technology, section of Microsystems TU/e, is a pioneer in point of care diagnostic research. The three parties join forces under the Eurostars project to further develop this very much needed diagnostic tool. The Netherlands Enterprise Agency (RVO) and Eureka Association made this grant possible.

About Dr. Eriola-Sophia Shanko - CEO & founder

Eriola-Sophia has a PhD in Magnetic micromixing for point of care diagnostics from the Microsystems Research Section at the Eindhoven University of Technology. Her BSc and MSc are in electrical engineering. In the middle of her PhD track, in 2019, she founded ShanX Medtech BV. Being an engineer, she loves creating things from thin air. As such, she is creating value for ShanX Medtech as the CEO ever since. During her time in academia, she realized that she is driven by applying her knowledge towards the improvement of patient care. She has always had an entrepreneurial mindset but with ShanX Medtech it’s being put into action. In 2019 she became an ambassador of AMR Insights to raise awareness on antibiotic resistance and in 2020 she was named a BioBusiness Leader of Tomorrow by the Global Biotech Revolution (Cambridge University).
