UNIIQ invests €2.1 million in six innovative South Holland startups
UNIIQ, the proof-of-concept investment fund of the South Holland region, has announced six new investments in promising startups, totaling €2.1 million. These strategic investments contribute to the further development of both the participating companies and the broader innovation ecosystem in the region. The announcement was made by Meindert Stolk, Provincial Executive for Economy and Innovation of the Province of South Holland.
"These investments highlight the strength of South Holland as an innovative region. Whether it's medical breakthroughs, digital safety, or sustainable energy, the startups we support demonstrate how technology can solve societal challenges. We are proud of the role UNIIQ plays in this and look forward to the impact these companies will make," says Meindert Stolk.
Healthcare & Biotechnology
-
AVIGI Therapeutics (€350.000) is developing an innovative cancer treatment that inhibits an enzyme involved in tumor growth, metastasis, and drug resistance. This could represent a breakthrough in oncology.
-
Leven Vision (€350.000) is using AI to automate the detection of parasitic infections, contributing to more efficient and reliable diagnostics.
-
1NA (€350.000) is developing the NanoLoom, a technology that visualizes protein-DNA interactions in real time and at the molecular level. This gives researchers new insights into complex biomedical processes.
Digital Innovation & Safety
-
ChatLicense (€350.000) is launching an app that functions as a digital ‘swimming diploma’ for children, aiming to improve their digital resilience. The app also offers a comprehensive support platform for parents and educators to address safety on multiple levels.
-
Fiducial (€350.000) is developing advanced 3D positioning software and hardware for inspection purposes, with an initial focus on non-destructive testing (NDT) in industries such as aerospace, energy, and infrastructure.
Sustainability & Energy
-
SeaHiker (€350.000) is working on the Jack-Up Leg Cushion (JLC) system, a mechanical cushioning system that improves the safety and handling of Wind Turbine Installation Vehicles (WTIVs). This enables these vessels to operate more frequently in harsh weather conditions, accelerating the deployment of wind energy.
Addressing Societal Challenges
The investments come at a crucial time. The healthcare sector is in strong need of innovative diagnostics and treatments, while the energy transition demands more efficient offshore wind installation methods. At the same time, increasing digitalisation calls for stronger digital resilience—especially for more vulnerable groups. UNIIQ is responding by supporting startups that offer solutions to these societal challenges.
“We are delighted to support these six innovative companies in laying a solid foundation for the future. Their technologies and solutions have the potential to make a significant impact in key sectors and contribute to strengthening the innovation climate in South Holland,” says Jasper Geselschap, Fund Manager at UNIIQ.
Symbolic handover in The Field Leiden
The investments were festively announced at The Field Leiden, where a symbolic handover took place. Meindert Stolk handed each startup a brick—symbolizing the building blocks of innovation and growth.
UNIIQ has supported dozens of startups in recent years in bringing their proof-of-concept to market. With this new round of investments, the fund once again confirms its role as a catalyst for innovation and entrepreneurship in South Holland.
