Alumni news: ARTIC Technologies Secures €350,000 Investment from Brabant Startup Fonds!
Proefdiervrij Venture Challenge 2023 alumnus ARTIC Technologies has secured €350,000 in funding from Brabant Startup Fonds BV (BSF) to accelerate the development of its next-generation in-vitro cell culture platform.
Based in Eindhoven, ARTIC Technologies is developing a disruptive, nature-inspired microfluidics technology called Magnetic Artificial Cilia. This platform enables highly precise and gentle fluid flow at the microscale, offering new solutions for fluid manipulation in life sciences research — and, in the future, green technology applications as well.
Supporting the Transition to Animal-Free Innovation
With BSF’s support, ARTIC Technologies aims to improve pre-clinical drug testing by enhancing the quality and reliability of complex in-vitro models (CIVMs). The innovation contributes to the broader shift toward new approach methodologies (NAMs) and reduces the reliance on animal models in biomedical research.
About the Technology and the Team
ARTIC’s Magnetic Artificial Cilia mimic biological motion to control flow conditions in micro-environments. The platform is expected to be a valuable tool for scientists working on microphysiological systems (MPS) and other advanced tissue models.
The investment is a key milestone in ARTIC’s commercial journey. The team expressed special thanks to Gerard Spanbroek (BSF) and Sebastiaan Huntjens for their support, as well as to partners at TU Eindhoven, The Gate, and Microsystems TU/e.
