AquaWomb and Medsim receive Stimuleringsfonds MRE funding for neonatal innovation

AquaWomb and Medsim have been awarded funding from the Stimuleringsfonds Metropoolregio Eindhoven (MRE) to accelerate the development of innovative solutions for extreme premature births.

Within this collaboration, AquaWomb and Medsim are developing an advanced training simulator for extreme preterm deliveries. The simulator will support medical teams in mastering highly complex birth scenarios and strengthen multidisciplinary communication during these critical moments in neonatal care.

AquaWomb is a spin-out from perinatology research at Eindhoven University of Technology (TU/e), developed in collaboration with European research partners. Building on this scientific foundation, the company is working towards a liquid-based incubator that mimics the warm, protective environment of the mother’s womb. Unlike conventional air-based incubators, this approach aims to allow extremely premature babies to mature more naturally, potentially improving long-term health outcomes.

The funding from MRE supports the next steps in translating this research into practical tools for clinical training and, ultimately, novel treatment approaches for vulnerable newborns and their families.
