Netherlands Academy of Engineering welcomes twenty new members

The Netherlands Academy of Engineering (NAE) has today installed twenty new members: fifteen Fellows and five Young Engineers. This new cohort represents a select group of leading engineers, technologists, and innovators from academia and industry who have demonstrated outstanding achievements, societal impact, and leadership in technological innovation and transition.

NAE is the national academy for engineering in the Netherlands and plays a key role in strengthening the position of engineering within society. The academy is connected to international networks such as Euro-CASE and CAETS, and serves as a platform where technology, policy, and society come together.

According to Marieke Huisman, NAE board member responsible for member nominations, the new members exemplify the essence of Dutch engineering:

“I am incredibly proud of our new NAE members. They are frontrunners working towards a sustainable, resilient future and a strong Dutch economy. They demonstrate what responsible technological development means, stimulate public–private collaboration, and embody the true engineering spirit: from measuring to knowing to building. What unites them is their drive to create real, positive impact on people’s lives.”

Strengthening engineering talent in the Netherlands

With the appointment of this new group, NAE further reinforces its commitment to addressing the shortage of engineering talent in the Netherlands. The academy is developing an action agenda aimed at increasing both the number and diversity of engineering professionals, from vocational education to universities, and from early-career engineers to established leaders.

The newly appointed Fellows and Young Engineers are active across a wide range of disciplines, including life sciences, chemistry, data science, energy, sustainability, and high-tech systems. Together, they serve as inspiring role models for the next generation of engineers and professionals who contribute daily to innovation and societal progress.

NAE extends its thanks to the selection committees, programme committees, and host institutions that contributed to the nomination process and the installation event.
