VivArt-X secures €3 million to accelerate regenerative breast reconstruction innovation

VivArt-X has secured €3 million in funding to fast-track the development of its regenerative biomaterials for breast tissue reconstruction. The funding supports a multidisciplinary collaboration with Maastricht UMC+, Maastricht University and Eindhoven University of Technology (TU/e), coordinated by Stimulus Programmamanagement.

The three-year project aims to accelerate pre-clinical development toward clinical application. VivArt-X is developing a personalised regenerative approach in which a patient’s own cells are supported by its biomaterial platform to restore healthy breast tissue after cancer surgery. The innovation has the potential to reduce the need for multiple reconstructive procedures, shorten recovery time and improve long-term quality of life for patients.

Breast cancer affects approximately one in seven women during their lifetime, with more than half requiring surgical removal of breast tissue. Current reconstruction options often involve multiple interventions and prolonged recovery. VivArt-X’s regenerative solution offers a promising alternative by focusing on tissue regeneration rather than traditional reconstruction.

The project is co-funded through the European OP Zuid programme, with additional support from the Provinces of Noord-Brabant and Limburg, the European Union, and the Dutch Ministry of Economic Affairs. TU/e contributes expertise in biomaterials and engineering, while Maastricht UMC+ and Maastricht University provide clinical expertise to support translation toward clinical development.

This collaboration marks an important step in advancing regenerative medicine solutions for women’s health and bringing innovative therapies closer to patients.
