ShanX Medtech secures €24 million to accelerate ultra-rapid antimicrobial susceptibility testing | Alumni news
ShanX Medtech B.V., alumni of the Venture Challenge Summer 2020, has secured a total of €24 million in financing to accelerate the final development, clinical validation, regulatory approval and commercial launch of its ultra-rapid antimicrobial susceptibility testing (AST) platform.
The financing consists of an oversubscribed €15 million seed round combined with an €8.85 million contract linked to EU emergency preparedness efforts, supported by DG HERA and the European Health and Digital Executive Agency (HaDEA).
ShanX Medtech’s technology focuses on speeding up AST, a key step in selecting effective antibiotics and addressing antimicrobial resistance. By shortening the time needed to determine which antibiotics are likely to work, such tools can support more targeted treatment decisions in clinical practice.
The seed round welcomed new investors including Borski Fund, Nextgen Ventures, CbusineZ, BOM (Brabantse Ontwikkelings Maatschappij) and Invest-NL, alongside a strategic angel fund. The company also acknowledged continued support from partners including Brabant Startup Fonds and TU/e The Gate.
In addition, ShanX Medtech highlighted the contribution of earlier public funding and support programmes, including OPZuid (Stimulus), Eurostars (Eureka Network) and Health~Holland instruments.
